There was a time when, in casual conversation, the bathroom was referred to as "the water closet." The funny phrase for a small room in which water-logged activities take place, though, was never meant to be taken literally - but if you aren't careful about protecting your bathroom, a water closet it just might become. According to Insure.com, water damage is one of the most common reasons people make claims on their home insurance. And in the bathroom, one of the most obvious sources of water (and possible water damage) is the shower and/or tub. Taking precautions with it is simple, however; a shower curtain and liner can work wonders in protecting the walls, ceiling, and floor from water spray. |
In truth, the most important aspect of the shower curtain setup is the liner, a clear vinyl sheet that's placed inside the shower or tub to keep water from running out onto the floor. The curtain offers a prettier, more private layer, however, which can be integral to the decor of your bathroom. The liner protects it too, by redirecting water and reducing the chances of mold and mildew growth, especially important with fabric curtains. Just to keep all your bases covered, opt for a coordinating bathmat to further protect the floor from warping or sagging after wet feet traverse it. Happily, none of these have to be costly; liners, in particular, are very inexpensive.
Keep an eye out for possible water damage:
With this kind of troubleshooting - and a quality shower curtain and liner - you can keep your bathroom looking beautiful for years to come.
